1a) GENERAL RULES/GUIDANCE
FOR DISPLAY OF PDIs
AND PRINTS
- All entries to be submitted with Competition Entry
Form to Competition Secretary, as and when detailed in the Programme, generally
at the last Club Meeting prior to the competition.
- All PDIs (projected digital images), CDs or PRINTS to
be identified with Author's Name.
- Titles are required only for the Club competitions
'Letter' and 'Three on a Theme', or Club competitions specifically designated
at the time of Title selection.
- All entries remain the property of the entrant at
all times and return can be requested at any time.
- Entries may be collected immediately after the competition.
- Digital images- the following is an extract from the
PAGB & CACC rules:
“The PAGB accepts the use of
digital images in all competitions provided that the original picture is
the work of the author. The use of copyright free images is not permitted.”
Therefore the whole of any entry
must be the work of the author.
- Downloaded / scanned images from other authors cannot be used or combined
to make an image.
- KCC applies the above definition to all digital images used in PDI or Print
competitions.
1b) PROJECTED
IMAGES
1b.1) SLIDES
- Slides are not now used for Competition display.
- Slide users can be accommodated by either printing
or scanning from original slides - see committee member for details/assistance.
1b.2) PROJECTED
DIGITAL IMAGES
- PDIs to
be submitted on CD only due to risk of loss/damage to memory sticks, smartcards
etc and possible non-receipt of emailed entries.
- See Competition Entry Form for
PDI submission details and file naming convention etc.

2a) SEASONS' COMPETITIONS
- All entries must have been taken after announcement of
subjects (usually in January of the previous season).
- Maximum 4
entries per competition evening, maximum 2 in either Projected
Dgital Image or Print section.
- Only entries submitted on 'Competition Entry Forms'
and to correct size/format will be accepted.
- 4th
choice to be identified in case of excessive
entry.
- Titling of entries is
required only for some competitions only - see Competition Entry Form, these
titles to be announced to the judge.
- Any image can be used for ONE "Seasons" cometition
only.
- An image refers to the original DIGITAL
FILE or negative. The original
or any derivative from it (ie scans/prints/manipulations) can only be used
once in "Seasons" competitions.
- Where appropriate, mixed media competitions
may be held, for one common subject with sections for Projected
Images and Prints.
Each section will be judged separately, with points and places awarded. In
addition the judge will award and overall 'Picture of the Evening' - a certificate
will be awarded for this.
2b) THREE ON A
THEME
- Multimedia competition - PDIs and Prints judged as
one competition.
- See separate 'Three on a Theme' guidance for detailed
information.
- Three images shown together to tell a story/joke etc.
- Sets of PDIs and prints are eligible.
- One picture per set to have been taken since the announcement of competition
subjects.
- Pictures entered for "seasons" competitions are eligible.
- Theme title
to be announced to judge and to
be clearly identified on Competition Entry Form and on
back of each set of prints.
- 2 sets allowed.
- Overall 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places to be selected by judge from highest scoring
sets of prints and slides.
2c) NEWCOMERS
- Open to those who have been members of Kidlington, or any other Camera Club,
for three years or less. Eligibility list will be published by Committee early
in the season.
- Subject - OPEN for P
rojected images
and Prints
- Maximum 4 entries allowed, 4th choice to be identified.
- Images previously given placing in Club internal competitions are not permitted.
- Unmounted prints are permitted but not advised (see
section 1c Prints).
2d) PRINT OF THE
YEAR AND PROJECTED IMAGES OF THE YEAR COMPETITIONS
2e) PRINTS OF
THE YEAR
- Two competitions - for COLOUR and for BLACK & WHITE.
- All entries must have been
taken after announcement of subjects (usually in January of the previous season).
- Total of 4 prints can be entered - maximum 2 in either
section, 4th choice to be identified.
2f) PROJECTED
IMAGES OF THE YEAR
- A compeition for PROJECTED DIGITAL IMAGES only.
- All entries must have been
taken after announcement of subjects (usually in January of the previous season).
- Maximum of 4 entries - 4th choice
to be identified in case of excessive entry.
3) COMPETITION
SCORING AND PHOTOGRAPHER OF THE YEAR
- All competitions are awarded 1st, 2nd & 3rd places (and a maximum of two
Highly Commended placings at the discretion of the judge). Certificates are
awarded for these.
- All entries are awarded points, to a maximum of 20 ( no ½ points ) to be
used to determine the overall “Photographer of the Year”.
- The Photographer of the Year is determined by totalling scores as follows:
The highest two scores from each eligible 'Season'
competition evening.
The highest score for 'Three on a Theme'.
The highest two scores from 'Projected Images of the Year' competitions (PDI)
The highest two scores from 'Prints of the Year' competitions (Colour and
Black and White)
4) EXTERNAL COMPETITIONS
- Projected images and prints are used in competitions
with other Camera Clubs ('Battles') and various local area competitions (Chilterns
Association of Camera Clubs).
- Pictures used for External competitions are chosen by the committee from
the Competition Pool.
- The selection of images for the Competition Pool is by vote by Club members
early each season and presented for Club discussion.
- The final selection of Slides ( about 30 needed each season ) is made by
committee members using those scores and presented for Club discussion (about
30 each of PDIs and Prints are needed).
- To ensure a 'fresh' group of pictures, only images not used in or submitted
to any previous Competition Pool selection are eligible. There is no limit
to entries to competition pool selection.
- PDI files and Prints are held for the season
by the Competition Secretary but remain the property of the author and are
available for return at any time.
- For 07/08 season (to be reviewed at 2008 AGM):
due to having only one competition this year,
club selection and presentation evenings will not be required. PDIs and prints
will be selected by committee, from either entries to club competitions (PDIs
held on club computer) or from requested submissions from members. Members will
be requested to submit for selection EITHER PDI OR PRINT (not both).
